Honest Trailers – Magic Mike: Because a Sequel isn’t Enough!

When you look like Channing Tatum, women will literally pay you to hump their faces. Once you start laughing, it's pretty much non-stop from there. Alright, there wasn't a lot of upscale entertainment behind Magic Mike to begin with, but when you start taking it scene by brutal scene, it gets downright ridiculous. Young stripper who has a drug problem? Check. We can deal with that. Beefy Tarzan stripper. A little difficult to swallow (gulp), but, yeah. OK. Stripper dreaming […]

GHOSTBUSTERS: Paul Feig Reveals Proton Pack in New Image

Social media has not only changed the way we live our daily lives, it’s also heavily impacted movie marketing. Sometimes it can be grating, like forcing contrived hashtags down people’s throats. But sometimes it can be smart, like the way filmmakers such as Zack Snyder and Bryan Singer tease images and first-looks from their highly anticipated upcoming films via their Twitter and Instagram handles. Director Paul Feig looks to be going a similar route with his Ghostbusters reboot, and after sharing […]

SECRET IN THEIR EYES Trailer: Roberts, Ejiofor, and Kidman Track a Killer

STX Entertainment has released a new trailer for the upcoming thriller Secret in Their Eyes. Based on the 2009 Argentine film of the same name, the movie stars Julia Roberts and Chiwetel Ejiofor as FBI agents Jess and Ray, respectively, whose lives are turned upside down when Jess’ daughter is found murdered, for seemingly no reason. Years later, their inability to bring the killer to justice still haunts Ray—until he finds a new lead that may prove integral to catching the […]

SCREAM Review: MTV’s Teen-Horror Series Strains To Be Hip, Compelling

About halfway through the pilot of MTV's Scream, adapted from the Wes Craven franchise of the same name, Noah (John Karna), a nerdy teen, goes meta and describes the challenges of adapting a slasher film for television. It's meant to be playful, but the entire discussion, in which Dario Argento and Horace Walpole are name-dropped, lands with a thud, bereft of the little details or sense of genuine fandom that added flavor to similar diatribes delivered by Jamie Kennedy's character […]

BACK TO THE FUTURE Remake Will Happen Over Robert Zemeckis’ Dead Body

Familiar IP is everything these days, it seems. Studios will (somewhat begrudgingly) continue to churn out original properties, but their bread and butter is sequels, reboots, and remakes—and you can’t blame them. The top three films of the year so far at the box office are all sequels, with Jurassic World positively rolling in the dough as it breaks record after record. Movie tickets are expensive, and audiences are more likely to spend their money on something they’re already pretty sure […]

SNOWDEN Trailer Teases Oliver Stone’s NSA Leaker Drama

Open Road Films has released the first teaser trailer for Oliver Stone’s upcoming thriller Snowden. The film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as government contracter Edward Snowden and recounts how he obtained and absconded with thousands of classified NSA documents, which he then disseminated to the press in the interest of informing the public about privacy breaches from its own government. This teaser doesn't show any footage so it doesn't really give us any indication of whether this'll be any good or not--it's more of an announcement that […]

The Best Films of 2015 So Far

A little over 300 films have debuted in the United States so far in 2015, and one can presume that anywhere from 300 to 450 more will see release before the end of the year. That’s a lot of movies – up by about 150 releases since 2010 - and really only a handful of those are sequels or franchise monoliths like Jurassic World or Avengers: Age of Ultron. Though superheroes, dinosaurs, and cartoons still rule the box office, the […]

Kevin Feige Reveals When SPIDER-MAN, THOR 3, and More Start Filming

The Marvel Studios train is a busy one, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down. Back in 2007, the studio was forging ahead with its first two films, Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk. Now, in the post-Avengers world, Marvel is juggling a schedule that sees the studio amping up to releasing three films a year starting in 2017, where we’ll get Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Spider-Man, and Thor: Ragnarok within the span of six months. With such […]

Win Tickets to the Comic-Con Screening of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST – ROGUE CUT

Much was made about the fact that while Anna Paquin shot scenes for the superhero sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past, her character’s future-set scenes were ultimately cut from the film. 20th Century Fox was attuned to the fan interest, however, and is thus releasing X-Men: Days of Future Past – Rogue Cut on DVD and Blu-ray next month, with Paquin’s scenes put back into the film. However, if you’re coming to San Diego Comic-Con next week, you might be […]

MAZE RUNNER: THE SCORCH TRIALS Trailer Gets the Minecraft Treatment

A little more than a month ago, we saw the first trailer for Wes Ball's Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, which took the cast out of the Glade and into the Scorch. Now, those same characters have been transformed from photogenic humans into blocky approximations of their former selves. No, it has nothing to do with WCKD's experiments; the trailer has simply undergone the Minecraft treatment. Why? Because the sequel's mod is coming soon to the popular game and, despite the odd […]
