TOP 5: FANTASTIC FOUR Trailer, GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot, TED 2, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 Editorial, Sundance 2015

Streaming now on Netflix Instant is Richard Ayoade's dark comedic thriller The Double. Matt listed the film in his "Top 10 of 2014" and it also made the cut in he and Adam's "10 Underrated Films of 2014" from a few weeks back. In short, after reading my own recommendation today, you'll have zero credibility if you say you missed the pic because it wasn't on your radar. Missed it because you don't value our opinions? Acceptable. Missed it because […]

Anthony Mackie Talks BLACK OR WHITE and CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

In Black or White, the new film from director Mike Binder (The Upside of Anger), Anthony Mackie plays Jeremiah Jeffers, a high-powered corporate lawyer who agrees to take on the custody case his sister (played by Octavia Spencer) wants to bring against Kevin Costner's Elliot Anderson.  If you're unfamiliar with the film you should check out the trailer along with my interview with Octavia Spencer. I recently had a chance to sit down with Mackie to talk about Black or White.  We cover his character's history with […]

Meet the JESSICA JONES Villain Purple Man: Who Is He? How Scary Is He? And More

Who is the Purple Man? Let's break down the history of the creepy villain, played by David Tennant, bound for Marvel’s upcoming Netflix series, A.K.A. Jessica Jones. Who is the Purple Man? Like many other Marvel villains that were created in the company’s early days, Zebediah Killgrave -- soon to be the Purple Man -- was tied closely to Communism.  (For those scratching your heads right now, read the first issue of Amazing Spider-Man back in the 1960s where Spidey calls […]

Friday Box Office: AMERICAN SNIPER Eyes Third Straight Win Over Super Bowl Weekend

The hits keep coming for American Sniper.  Following its record-setting debut with an equally stunning sophomore hold last weekend (down just 27% with $64.6 million), the Clint Eastwood drama is now poised to dominate that most-American of box office frames: Super Bowl weekend. American Sniper is expected to bring in another $32 million in its third weekend in wide release.  That would establish a new all-time high for the Super Bowl frame.  The current record belongs to Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: […]

Rose Byrne Will Return for X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

Well here’s some good news to start off your weekend.  Rose Byrne brought the X-Men character of Moira MacTaggert to life in director Matthew Vaughn’s excellent 1960s-set film X-Men: First Class, and while MacTaggert wasn’t a huge character in the semi-reboot, Byrne’s portrayal was promising and there was hope that she’d be further developed in the sequel.  However, when X-Men: Days of Future Past rolled around, there was nary a mention of MacTaggert ever existing despite the fact that she […]

Emory Cohen Talks BROOKLYN, STEALING CARS, VINCENT-N-ROXXY, and More at Sundance

“1950s Ireland: Eilis (Saoirse Ronan) must confront a terrible dilemma — a heartbreaking choice between two men (Domhnall Gleeson, Emory Cohen) and two countries, between duty and true love.” When I first read the one liner for director John Crowley’s immigrant drama Brooklyn before Sundance began, I figured it would end up being a slow moving period piece that might appeal to a small segment of moviegoers. I could not have been more wrong. Now that Sundance is over, I can […]

CONSTANTINE Recap: “A Whole World Out There”

Tonight's episode opens up with a few drunk college kids playing with an ancient Egyptian book of the occult while partying in a crypt.  The foursome attempts to perform a spell that will open a door to an alternate universe.  If their glassy eyes and vacant expressions are any indication, it would appear the spell worked.  Each of them finds themselves in very different settings - a bloody torture dungeon, a room displaying dusty artifacts, etc - but each of […]
