Oscar Watch: Who Will Win Best Supporting Actress?

This week, Oscar Watch takes our weekly look at the first of the five main categories of those who received Oscar nominations. We begin with the five outstanding women who scored a Best Supporting Actress nod and by the end of our look… we will predict the winner. Jennifer Lawrence, American Hustle Lawrence, a winner last year for David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook, looks like she could go two-for-two, albeit in the Best Supporting Actress category this year. She […]

Trailer and Poster for Denis Villeneuve’s ENEMY Starring Jake Gyllenhaal

A24 Films has released a full theatrical trailer and an excellent poster for Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming psychological thriller Enemy.  The twisty premise revolves around a university lecturer (Jake Gyllenhaal) who discovers that he has a double, whom he tracks down and engages, resulting in “a complex and dangerous struggle.”  The pic earned strong marks when it played at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall, and this trailer does a nice job of teasing the dark and haunting […]

Liam Neeson to Reteam with Martin Scorsese for SILENCE

Though Liam Neeson has definitely been finding success as an action star recently since his grizzled turn in Taken, he plans on returning to his dramatic roots in the near future.  Deadline reports that Neeson has joined the cast of Martin Scorsese’s next film Silence, reuniting the actor with his Gangs of New York director.  Silence has been a passion project of Scorsese’s for decades, and his adaptation of the Shusaku Endo novel is finally poised to get in front […]

Director Damien Chazelle, Paul Reiser and Austin Stowell Talk WHIPLASH at Sundance 2014

One of my favorite films at this year's Sundance Film Festival was writer/director Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash.  The film stars Miles Teller as an aspiring jazz drummer who aspires to greatness under a ruthless instructor, played brilliantly by J.K. Simmons.  While the film focuses on musicians, it's really about anyone trying to become great at something and the cost of achieving said goal.  Trust me, it's a great movie, and one you'll be able to see by the end of the year because Sony Pictures Classics picked […]

First Clip from NON-STOP Starring Liam Neeson

The first clip from director Jaume Collet-Serra‘s new thriller Non-Stop is now online.  The film takes place on a transatlantic flight where a U.S. Air Marshal (Liam Neeson) must stop a mysterious hijacker who is threatening to kill a passenger every 20 minutes unless his ransom demand is met.  The action hasn't quite jumped up to that level in this first clip, but it will make you think twice about complaining about cramped seating or a shortage or airplane peanuts. The film also stars Julianne […]

Zachary Quinto to Star in HITMAN Sequel AGENT 47

Zachary Quinto (Star Trek) is the latest addition to Aleksander Bach's Hitman sequel, Agent 47.  Fox International postponed its initial February start date on the film after the tragic death of star Paul Walker, who was set to lead the video game adaptation's reboot.  The studio recently recast the role, tapping Homeland's Rupert Friend for the lead.  It's not clear what part Quinto would be playing, but what is known is that the sequel follows the title character in his […]

Batman vs. Superman: Jesse Eisenberg Is Lex Luthor!

All the rumors and speculation can be put to rest: Jesse Eisenberg is Lex Luthor in Batman vs. Superman! The man who played the founder of Facebook in The Social Network is set to tackle one of the comic book world's most legendary villains. In hindsight, this makes perfect sense. Luthor is a contemporary of Clark Kent and so many of the names mentioned for the role in the past few months were significantly older. For the Man of Steel […]

Jackass Presents Bad Grandpa DVD Review: Johnny Knoxville Kills It

Johnny Knoxville has the rarest of talents that is being able to slip into a character with a hidden camera rolling and produce hysterical laughs from his audience. Nowhere is that more prevalent than with his latest blockbuster, Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa… out now on DVD and Blu-Ray. The Bad Grandpa trailer shows us the story, but can’t even come close to showing the massive amount of hilarity that comes from Knoxville’s latest. Knoxville is Irving, an eighty-something man who […]
